Friday, May 11th

Travel day to the airport in Rome.


Saturday, May 12th

Assisi, Italy

Italian tour escort will pick our group up at the Rome airport.  Our private touring coach will make it's way to Assisi (3 hour drive).  Along the way we will stop in Spello, home to many ancient Roman monuments such as the medieval walls, ruins of the the theater, thermal baths and town portals from the Augustean era.

Admission:  Church of St. Mary Maggiore.  See the marvelous Baglionia Chapel with paintings by Pinturicchio and Perugoni.

Welcome to Assisi, a spot with twisting alleyways from medieval times set against the backdrop of sacred Mt. Sebasion.

Welcome dinner at hotel or local restaurant, 3 course meal, including 1 glass of wine or beverage.  Beautiful Hotel San Francesco will be our resting place for the evening.





Sunday, May 13th

Breakfast in hotel.

Local guide will meet our wonderful group in the Hotel San Francesco lobby and provide a half-day walking tour of Assisi.

Onward then via private motor coach!

Admission:  Basilica of St Francis of Assisi, an incongruous memorial to a man who preached and lived a simple life of poverty, abstinence and reununciation of worldly goods in search of greater spirituality.

Admission:  La Porziuncola Nuova, a scaled replication of Saint Francis' Porziuncola in the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels.

Winery Azienda Agraria Saio:  Trekking and  picnic lunch in the vineyard.

Winery Azienda Agraria Saio:  Wine and olive oil tastings.

Beautiful Hotel San Francesco will once again, be our resting place for the evening. 


Monday, May 14th

Breakfast in hotel.

Full day tour of exquisite LaVerna.

Admission:  La Verna Sanctuary, the site where Saint Francis received the stigmata.

We will tour this monastic complex that includes the monastery, church, museum, chapels, and the cave that was his cell.

Saint Mary's Church holds mass several times each day.

Walk up to la Penna, the highest point on the mountain where there is a chapel built on a precipe, providing panoramic views of Tuscany, Umbria and Marche.

Dinner at the hotel or local restaurant, 3 course meal, including 1 glass of wine or beverage.

Beautiful Hotel San Francesco will be our resting place for the evening.


Tuesday, May 15th

Breakfast in hotel.

Our private motor-coach will transport us to Perugia the Sister City to Grand Rapids, MI.  

We will enjoy a beautiful day in this enchanting city, including a Tuscan winery tour.

Our local guide will meet us in Perugia and provides a 2-hour walking tour in a city that evokes the Etruscan age.

Admission:  Perugia Galleria Nazionale, the largest and finest collection of Umbrian art in the world.

Lunch and Pecorino Cheese tasting in Pienza:  Ristorante Dal Falco

Winery tour and tasting in Montepulciano:  Cantina Gattavecchi's charming refetory of the old Monastery of Santa Maria Del Servi.

Beautiful Hotel San Francesco will be our resting place for the evening.


Wednesday, May 16th

Rome

Breakfast in our beautiful hotel.

Pick-up at hotel in Assisi and transfer to Rome, touring upon arrival (2.5 hour drive + stops).

Welcome to Rome!  The Eternal City boasts some of the most important ancient ruins, relics from previous empires and churches of Europe.  It is a vast treasure trove of monuments, religious structures, artistic sculptures and fountains.

Lunch at local restaurant, 2 course meal, including coffee or tea and water.

Admission:  Colosseum

Stop for a photo-op at the Arch of Constantine.

Thursday, May 17th

Breakfast in our hotel.

Free morning to explore this exquisite city on your own.  Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps (1-hr. roundtrip walk).

Local guide will meet our group in the hotel lobby and provide a half-day tour of the Vatican.  Whisper system Headsets - for live tour commentary.

Admission:  Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica.

Dinner:  Restauranti Alfredo alla Scrafo:  4-course meal, including 1 glass of wine, coffee and water.

Beautiful Victoria Rome Hotel in Rome will be our resting place for the evening.


Friday, May 18th

Greece

Breakfast in hotel.

Our travel assistant will meet our group in the hotel lobby and accompany us to the Rome airport via private motor-coach.

Alitalia:  Flight from Rome to Athens 8:45 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. 

Private coach and guide will pick us up at the Athens airport and provide a tour en-route to the hotel.

Admission:  Acropolis

Saturday, May 19th

Private coach and assistant to pick us up at Mykonos airport and transfer us to our beautiful hotel.

Welcome to Mykonos an island in the Cyclades group that got its name from Apollo's grandson.  Marvel at the whitewashed houses and 16th-century windmills by Mykonos Town.

Dinner at hotel or local restaurant, 3 course meal, including 1 glass of wine.

Sunday, May 20th

Breakfast in hotel

Half day guided tour of the uninhabited island of Delos, featuring one of the most important archaeological sites in the eastern Mediterranean (about 4 hours).

Pick up at hotel and transfer to the pier in the Old Port

Boat ride to Delos about 30-35 minutes each way.

Guided tour includes:  Temple of Apollo, Sanctuary of Artemis, Old City and the Theater, Lion Street.

Admission:  Museum of Delos known for its collection of Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman sculptures.

Balance of the day is free.

Wednesday, May 23rd

Breakfast in hotel.

Full-day Santorini Island Tour (about 8 hours).

Visit Profitis Elias Mountain, the highest peak on the island where you will enjoy a breathtaking, panoramic view from the Monastery on top.

Walking tour of the traditional village, Megalochori, featuring cycladic houses, neoclassic buildings and white churches with their striking blue domes.

Visit Akrotiri the Bronze Age settlement preserved under volcanic ash after being destroyed by a massive eruption in the 17th-century BC.  It is sometimes called the, "Prehistoric Pompei."

Free time on Red Beach, famous for its unique color of sand backed by the soaring red lava cliffs above the clear blue sea.

Explore Perivolos black sand beach with time enough to enjoy lunch on your own, relax or swim.

Walking tour of Fira, where you can do a little shopping for local handicrafts.

Admission:  Museum of Prehistoric Thira.

Farewell dinner at hotel or local restaurant, 4 course meal, including 1 glass of wine or beverage.

Thursday, May 24th

Private coach and assistant will pick our group up at the hotel and transfor to Santorini airport.
